EDDY (Secure Signature Creation Devices), are USB TOKEN devices that provide the ability to generate and store digital certificates in a secure protected area.
USB token devices differ from the well-known memory sticks that store files, photos, etc. A USB token device has an integrated "cryptographic" chip, which stores the owner's private keys (qualified digital certificates) with the utmost security. However, a USB flash drive looks like a memory stick, and connects to a computer's (PC, laptop) USB port.
USB token devices meet all requirements (technical, legal), and their use is mandatory based on international standards and legislation for qualified digital signatures that are legally recognized as equivalent to physical signatures on documents. EDDY must cover the Evaluation criteria defined in Appendix A of EETT decision 295-63 as published in the Government Gazette 1730/24-11-2003.
The Investment Center belongs to the list of APED Ministry - Hellenic Public Administration Certification Authority (www.aped.gov.gr) as the digital certificates that have been issued so far have been received and checked that they work correctly with the ministry's infrastructure (APED).
Certified USB TOKENS for Digital Signature
Here is the list of the EDDY that have been verified to work properly with the public key infrastructure of APED (Hellenic Public Administration Certification Authority - Procedure for Issuing Certificates for Citizens). The list is indicative and identifies the ADDYs that have been tested, i.e. digital certificates have been issued and received for them.

They are the continuation of USB Oberthur Token [Oberthur ID-One Cosmo V7.1] and Safenet eToken 5110 [IDPrime MD840] and cover all the requirements of the Ministry for Qualified Certificates. From the beginning of 2022, only certified e-tokens are used, due to the tightening of the Ministry's institutional framework for Digital Signatures (APED – Hellenic Public Administration Certification Authority).

✦Brief description: USB Token EVO [Oberthur ID-One Cosmo V8.1] / USB Gemalto IDPrime (MD940) are electronic devices that externally resemble a USB Flash memory. The digital certificates of an Electronic (Digital) Signature are securely stored in these special devices.

The USB Token EVO [Oberthur ID-One Cosmo V8.1] / USB Gemalto IDPrime (MD940) are the most valid / certified USB token models that have been tested for proper operation and security using the public key (PKI) of the APED web portal. They are recognized as certified EDDYs by the Hellenic Public Administration Certification Authority.

This was proven through a number of Digital Signature installations nationwide.

As an EDDY, it is certified according to CC EAL 4+ and meets the conditions of EETT Decision 295-63 (Government Gazette 1730/2003). Its capacity is 72K while its operating system is Java. It comes with MW operating system and is compatible with Windows 8.1, 8, 7(32/64bit), Vista(32/64bit), as well as Windows Server 2003/RS (32/64bit), Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit).
